Media training sessions

Halfway through a rapid response media coaching session recently, my client said, "Wow I'm actually amazed, I really thought that people being interviewed on the news were winging it!"

This is pretty funny, but also shows how media training, and careful preparation, helps to ensure that your message gets through loud and clear, and that your story is reported accurately and fairly in the media.

As the business and political climate has changed rapidly over the past few months, and looking ahead, it may be appropriate to use a spokesperson who has not been in front of media before (or is a bit rusty).

Our media training program has been developed with strategic communications colleagues, as well as working journalists. It provides an overview of the roles & responsibilities of media and of spokespersons, a primer on key messages, how to deliver your message, how to respond to questions, and how to deal with tricky situations. It also includes a key messages development session, and media interview practice.

This media training program is suitable for all types of organizations, including non-profits, small business, advocacy groups and government facing entities. Each half-day session has up to eight participants. Many organizations have included staff or volunteers who may not be spokespersons, but benefit from an understanding of media relations and interview techniques. It can be held in person, or by video conference.

Past participants have said:

“This is a course I would highly recommend to colleagues and speakers in a variety of governmental positions and industries.”

“Vanessa does a great job of making a very intimidating process manageable. Her customized training works for both amateurs and experienced spokespeople.”

“Informative, practical and simple to follow!”

If you need some training and practice, contact me to book a one-on-one or small group media coaching session. With a bit of prep, you will feel confident to tackle your next media interview.
