Now, more than ever, communications matters

What a strange few weeks it has been!

Understatement of the year?

The Covid-19 global pandemic, and the sudden shutdown of society and the economy, has been startling, challenging, and at times, a bit terrifying.

I will spare you further commentary, and just let me say that I sincerely hope that you are keeping well, safe, and sane.

This unprecedented situation is presenting communications challenges for organizations of all sizes, in all industries. As we transition into the new normal, highly effective, well-planned communications are incredibly important. More than ever, we are strapped for time and resources, and we only get one shot to get it right.

I'd like to share some ways I've been helping clients communicate during this time:

  • Developed a social media strategy and provided training for an organization to help them develop online relationships with their partners and stakeholders, and prepare for inevitable rapid response scenarios

  • Set up a local, talented, visual artist with an online catalogue, website, and social media pages to continue selling her wares while summer markets are cancelled

  • Held media training sessions for clients speaking to the media for the first time, and a special one-on-one session to help a new spokesperson for a non-profit prepare for on-camera interviews

  • Preparing a complete communications plan, including social media, video announcement and stakeholder communications for a client forced to move an in-person event online due to Covid-19.

Personally, my greatest joy through the lock down was co-founding Interactive Soccer Community, a live interactive soccer training program that included hundreds of players from across BC and Alberta each week. It was the perfect way, not only to keep ourselves busy, but also to blend my passion for health and fitness with my skill in marketing & communications.

Whether you are involved in a corporate, small business, non-profit, or advocacy group, a professionally executed strategic communications approach can ensure that you're reaching the right audience with the right message, every single time.
